WELCOME TO THE NEW MIDWEST SOUTHERNER

If you've been here a while, you probably know Midwest Southerner as a food blog. Since 2020, this is where I shared recipes, and I loved every minute of it. But lately my life has gotten a lot bigger than my kitchen, and I wanted this blog to grow with it.

So here's what's changing, and what's staying the same.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME

I was born and raised in the Texas Panhandle, and I'll always be a Southerner at heart. After getting married, my husband and I moved from Texas to Chicagoland, and eventually we landed in Wisconsin, where we purchased our fourth home in ten years. (I know.) Along the way I also called Little Rock, Fort Worth, and Dallas home, so I've picked up a few opinions about barbecue, winter coats, and everything in between.

Our house is run by Blanche, our Great Pyrenees, Finn, our geriatric cat, and soon, a brand new Great Pyrenees puppy. (Pray for us.)

I've always thought of my food blog as an online recipe book for myself and my family, and I'm approaching this new version the same way. It's really just a place to capture my life and share, on a slightly bigger scale, the things I already share with my family and friends. The spreadsheet of where to eat in Maine. The eye patches I won’t shut up about. etc. etc.

I'm the type person who researches everything to death before I buy it, before I book it, before I eat it. I read the reviews, compare the options, and think it over for longer than I'd like to admit, because I'd rather buy something once and take care of it than replace it every year. When it comes to travel, I know I may only visit a place once, and I don't want to miss something special. So when I share something here, you can trust I've done the homework.

I'm not here to be an influencer or push the latest trend on you. If I share something, it's because I actually use it, love it, or would tell my best friend about it. That's it. This is just a fun project for me, and if it helps you plan a trip, pick an outfit, or find a new favorite recipe, even better.

WHAT YOU’LL FIND HERE

Midwest Southerner is becoming a lifestyle blog, which is a fancy way of saying I'll be writing about the things I actually spend my time on:

  • Style: real outfits for real occasions, like what I wore to a Husker tailgate or what I packed for a trip

  • Travel: detailed guides from places I've been, including Napa and a whole lot of Maine

  • Beauty: the skincare and routines I actually use, especially now that I'm officially in my 40s

  • Home & Kitchen: the tools I cook with every day and the projects happening in our new house

  • Life: everything else, including a puppy who is about to turn our world upside down

DON’T WORRY, THE RECIPES ARE STAYING

If you came here for recipes, they aren't going anywhere. You'll find all of them in the Recipes section, and I'll still share new ones when something is too good to keep to myself. They just won't be the only thing on the menu anymore.

LET’S STAY IN TOUCH

The best way to keep up is to join my email list. You'll get new posts, what I'm wearing and loving, and the occasional travel guide before it goes up on the blog. No spam, just the good stuff.

Thanks for being here, whether you've been reading since the recipe days or you just found me today. I'm so glad you're along for the ride.
